What is this about?
If you are concerned about the state of BC's agriculture industry, the continued erosion of the Agricultural Land Reserve, the lack of provincial programs for farms and farmers, or any of the myriad other policy failures of the BC government over the past decades, this rally is your chance to demand a change. Join us on April 18, 2009, 1:30 pm, at the BC Legislature as we rally for agriculture policy reform leading up to the May 12 BC provincial election!
On this blog, you will find five features:
1. An RSVP--Please let us know if you will be attending the rally!
2. A news feed that will tell you about the latest updates on the 2009 Rally
3. A summary of the agriculture policy demands we want to focus on
4. A space for you to express what new agriculture policies you want to see our government enact
5. A resource page to find out more about agriculture issues in British Columbia
I will be attending...
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'll be there. Jordan: thanks for making this happen.
I look forward to the discussions here and elsewhere to better define who "we" are and what "agricultural policy" we want.
-S.
I'm there.
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteThanks from me too.
I'd like to speak at the rally if that is appropriate.
Herb Barbolet
I'll be there, and I'll try to bring friends.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making this happen. It is time for farmers to receive the recognition they deserve. Count me in. + friends. Elmarie.
ReplyDeleteAdam Saab is very happy to attend and speak for the obvious importance of farms and food security.

ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in bringing my tractor as a prop, anybody else want to join in, circling the 'ledge?

Horses, chickens, goats, pigs & cows.
Just a thought, Dan.
I will be attending and bring as many people from Central Saanich as I can find.
ReplyDeleteSue Stroud
Central Saanich NDP will be there en masse
ReplyDeleteHelen Lupowitz and Patricia Geernaert from The Garden Box.ca will be there!
ReplyDeleteI won't be attending the rally. It's too much trouble and time to attend, and I don't need a trip to Victoria from mid-island, Neither does the environment.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering why the rally is scheduled for a Saturday. There's nobody at the Legislature. Is it on Saturday because so many farmers have weekday jobs to earn money to keep on farming? Is it because more general public will be able to attend?
Rallys at the legislature make the news, but have little if any other effect. Even when the politicians are there, they simply wait for everyone to go away.
Years ago there was a tremendously effective rally to save the Islands Trust. People from all the islands arrived in Victoria and stayed until the government abandoned the impending changes, and shut down the legislative session. I don't remember how many days it took, but it was less than a week.
I will spend time writing to and phoning MLAs and cabinet ministers, expressing my concerns to their executive assistants.
I hope that the rally is fun and interesting, and that everyone who attends also takes some time to call or write to their MLA. Even better, make an appointment to meet with them, either in their Legislative office or in their consitituency office.
FoodRoots Distributors Co-op is fully in support of the rally!
ReplyDeleteI'm sending it out in the Share Organics newsletter.
ReplyDeleteWe need to represent all those in the province who cannot get over to the Island!
Share Organics supports this action and will be at the rally!
ReplyDeleteSaanich Organics will be there, raising a banner for beyond food security to food sovereignty. We are very grateful for this rally and the chance to raise awareness. We also take Peter Johnston's point that we need to apply pressure to many points over a greater span of time to get our message across. We should talk strategy!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll be there.
ReplyDeleteJonathan Francoeur
I'll be there with the Family of Farmers.
ReplyDeleteJonathan Francoeur
The Island Chef's collaborative supports this rally and will be represented. Good work Jordan.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea; thanks for doing this. Here's hoping for a turnout whose size reflects the number of food and agriculture issues our politicians need to understand. See you Saturday!
ReplyDeleteCertified Organic Association of British Columbia COABC will be sending their banner for the rally and support the Rally. Add them to the list!
